There are many different things that can lead to a construction defect. Everyone involved in the building process from the architects who plan the project to the contractors who construct the structure have to ensure that they are doing everything they can to keep the building safe.
One of the earliest construction defects that can occur is when there isn’t proper planning. Everything from ground slope to soil composition have to be considered when building a structure in Florida. This is especially true when you think about the strength and stability that are needed to withstand a hurricane.
The foundation of a home should be stable. When there are substandard materials or improper construction techniques used, the foundation can shift or fail, which can quickly ruin the building.
A settling house might not seem like a big issue, but it is something that can cause serious problems down the road. Improper compacting of the soil beneath the building can lead to this issue, but there are also other causes like frost heaves.
Other problems that people might need to seek legal remedies for construction defects are when improper building leads to mold in the home and when there are problems with the roof construction.
In these cases, as well as all other construction defects, the person who is paying for the project might decide to seek compensation for the cost of the original project, the expense of correcting the problems, and damages related to the inability to use the building. All of these can add up to a considerable cost that must be factored into the case.
