Have you answered these important home closing questions?

Buying a home is exciting, but before you can move in, there are some important details that deserve your full and undivided attention.

It is critical to answer a variety of questions as you get closer and closer to the day when you close on your home. While every homebuyer is in a unique position, here are some of the many questions you should think about asking and answering:

  • Are you clear about how much money you need to bring to the closing table?
  • Do you have an understanding of your monthly payment, including when it is due?
  • Has all the necessary paperwork been taken care of?
  • Do you know the appraised value of your home?
  • Have you consulted with the title company to ensure that everything is in order on their end?
  • Have you provided your real estate agent with all the information he or she has requested?

As you answer these important home closing questions, don’t be surprised if others come to mind. For example, you will need to closely review the paperwork associated with your closing and mortgage. As you do so, you could discover a problem, e.g., the title company isn’t doing what it needs to do or the seller is dragging his or her feet with the closing.

You have many rights as a homebuyer, and you need to protect them at all costs. This all starts with being prepared, such as by answering these important questions.

If anything goes wrong at your closing, don’t hesitate to take a step back to ensure that you’re doing what’s best for you and your future.
